A two-year adventure
It took a while for Mesofera to see the light. More than we expected. And our expectations were blown several times, a combination of our inexperience and putting ourselves up to a challenge this big. It took two years of research and development, learning new technological and educational languages, frustration, exhaustion, and bull-headedness. It took us a year and half to finally see and feel our progress.
On one end, we dedicated eight months immersed in the education sector where we concluded that a project with these characteristics could be useful to teachers and students. From the start we relied on the invaluable collaboration, advice and enthusiasm of Montserrat del Pozo, director of Montserrat school from Barcelona, and of Monika Horch and Cristina Lopez, members of its board of directors, to carry out the field work. With their grand vision and experience in new interactive and stimulating methodologies, they were the ones who believed in us from the get go, and reconfirmed along the way, that we weren’t on the wrong track.
From a technological point of view, mesofera is a project based on a computer vision. It was developed in C++ and FLASH CS3 programs. Since it was our first time entering this field, it turned out to be an intense baptism of fire that surpassed us many times.
The two principle objectives-challenges were:
one, find a surface 1.30m in diameter to fit a group of 8-10 users according to age. And two, that it would be “multi-touch,” so that all the users could participate by touching the surface.
Currently we’re working with our friends at Dear Design (besides being great industrial designers, they’re also excited about our social project) on constructing the definitive Mesosfera.

Utani is the initiative of a group of people aspiring to improve people’s day to day life a little. We bring to life useful (útiles), easy (fáciles) and attractive (bonitas) ideas for different social groups and their needs.
